Colorbond roofing has revolutionised the roofing industry. It doesn’t seem that long ago that metal or Colorbond roofs were considered budget materials that were used on commercial or industrial properties and sheds. Today Colorbond roofs are corrosion resistant, relatively inexpensive and they come in a range of stylish colours.
Since it was first introduced Colorbond has continued to expand and improve their product range and now there is a Colorbond roofing material for almost every need.
Colorbond is available in a range of profile shapes to suit different homes
Roofing is insulated to help dampen noise and prevent heat transfer
Colourbond is heat reflective to keep your home cooler
For patios and other areas where both sides of the roofing is exposed, you can buy Colorbond that is coloured on both sides.
Colorbond is designed as an all-in-one roofing system, when you choose your roof, you can also choose matching guttering, or, to add a touch of style you can choose a complementary colour from their range of colour options.
While installing a Colorbond roof can be a D.I.Y project, it does need to be installed to Australian Standard AS 1562 – this is to ensure the roofing is installed correctly and won’t pose a danger in normal or extreme weather conditions.
Your old roof is removed first, and existing battens are checked to ensure they are not damaged, if need be they are replaced by new battens.
Installation of a Colorbond roof is best done by roofing professionals and is a step-by-step process.
The guttering and facias are installed first (if required)
Anti-condensation Insulation Blanket (Sarking) – a reflective foil with a layer of insulation is installed before the roofing, this is to help prevent condensation build up damaging your ceiling
Sheets of Colorbond are light enough to be passed up to the person on the roof, one by one
When the sheets are put in place they are marked with a chalk line and cut before being fixed in place. The chalk is used so the batten below can be easily found, you don’t want to screw straight into the sheeting leaving a hole
All sheets are precisely aligned and then Flashings and Cappings are added to finish off the roof and make it watertight – all custom-made for your roof.
After the roof has been installed it is then cleaned. This is done because tiny fragments of metal (swarf) can cause the roof to corrode if they are not removed.
Colourbond roofing can transform the look of your home and is perfect for not only giving an older home a facelift, but also putting less weight on the structure – caring for your new roof is easy and it will last you a lifetime.
