About us

mydm.co.uk is the consumer face of the UK Direct Marketing Association (DMA). This website was created to provide information on the choices and powers the public have over the direct marketing messages they receive, the benefits of communicating with organisations in this way and the protections that are in place to protect the rights of consumers.

The Direct Marketing Association (UK) Ltd is a non-profit organisation which represents the direct marketing industry. Over 900 organisations are members of the DMA and every member has to adhere to the standards set by the DMA in our Code of Practice. One of our aims is to improve consumer trust and confidence in the direct marketing industry by regulating our members and providing help and advice on how to communicate with consumers in a way which will be both effective and welcomed.

Each year members of the public spend £67 billion on products or services that they have bought through direct marketing. As an industry, direct marketing generates around 9% of consumer sales on a yearly basis as well as employing roughly 814,000 people (both directly and indirectly) and supporting 3% of all employment in the UK.

The DMA administers a portfolio of Preference Services that allow consumers to register their contact details, free of charge, should they choose to reduce the amount of direct marketing approaches they receive via mail, telephone or fax.
